DESCRIPTION
What the heck is a switch rod? Switch rods are a little bit longer than a conventional single hand fly rod and a little bit shorter than a conventional spey rod. For the most part these rods employ modern spey casting techniques, however since switch rods are shorter and lighter than conventional spey rods, they can also be used for single hand casting if desired. Essentially, in terms of their application switch rods are hybrid single hand/double hand rods. Because of their casting versatility, switch rods have become wildly popular in recent years and can be used to fish for anything from salmon/steelhead to fluvial and lacustrine trout.
These rods were designed by master switch rod maker Bob Meiser and fishing guide & teacher Mike Kinney. Not only did Bob originate the switch rod concept, he’s also been at the forefront of switch rod development ever since. With Bob and Mike’s expertise and our patented Kevlar Layering Process, we’ve come up with a series of smooth casting rods with excellent tip recovery and sensitivity.
